Group 2
A quick discussion before we continue. Repeating the summary:
0:00-0:11 ... Takedown
0:12-0:17 ... Arm removed from neck
0:16-0:30 ... Series of I-can't-breathe's
We need to be clear:
-- The I-can't-breathe's were not concurrent with the arm-around-neck.
-- There was no choking during the I-can't-breathe's.
-- The series of I-can't-breathe's happened after the takedown was complete. (About five seconds after.)
Without using timings, we can also state this as three separate events that happened one after the other:
1 ) Takedown
2 ) Arm removed from neck
3 ) Series of I-can't-breathe's
Please review the video until you fully believe this. We are about to present statements from a wide range of news organizations that scramble and mix this sequence of events. We believe this has caused a significant distortion to the understanding of this incident.
-----------
This first set of published statements incorrectly places the I-can't-breathe's (0:16-0:30) onto the takedown (0:00-0:11). Thus, they incorrectly state that the I-can't-breathe's occurred when the arm was around the neck.

(8) "The settlement came nearly a year after the 43-year-old Garner died, having repeatedly pleaded 'I can't breathe!' as Officer Daniel Pantaleo took him to the ground with an arm around his neck. Garner lost consciousness and was pronounced dead later at a hospital."
(8) Associated Press, "De Blasio: Garner's death not in vain" 7/15/15

(9) "Video...shows an officer placing a chokehold on the 6-foot-3, 350-pound Garner, who can be heard complaining repeatedly that he can't breathe as at least four other officers bring him down."
(9) NBC News, "NYPD Chokehold Death Ruled Homicide, Medical Examiner Says" 8/1/14
--------------------------
(10) "Police move in as Garner raises both hands in the air and tells them not to touch him. One officer reaches for Garner's hand; seconds later, another officer wraps his arm around Garner's neck. Cellphone video shot by a friend of Garner's shows the officer maintaining that hold as Garner is taken to the ground, crying out, 'I can't breathe, I can't breathe, I can't breathe,' over and over again. The words stop. And Garner never gets up."
(10) CNN, "Was a New York police officer's chokehold on Eric Garner necessary?" 12/8/14
-----------------------------
(11) "Garner, who had asthma, could be heard on a cellphone video shouting, 'I can't breathe,' at least eight times as Pantaleo takes him down in what appears to be a chokehold, an action the NYPD prohibits. He died in a hospital hours later."
(11) USA Today, "No charges in NYC chokehold death; ..." 12/4/14
-----------------------------
(12) "Garner's plea, 'I can't breathe,' repeated 11 times as police wrestled him down -- one applying a chokehold..."
(12) New York Daily News, "A death that changed all, Eric Garner one year later" 7/12/15
------------------------------
(13) "The video of the takedown (with Garner pleading 'I can't breathe, I can't breathe') offers stunning evidence of a clear violation of NYPD's policy against chokeholds."
(13) San Francisco Chronicle, "Eyes of injustice in killings by police" 12/4/14 (editorial)
----------------------------------
(14) "Millions watched the video in which an officer took Garner to the ground during an arrest for a petty violation and heard him repeatedly cry out 'I can't breathe!' to no avail.
Those same millions later struggled to fathom how a grand jury -- after seeing that tape -- could fail to charge any of the cops, including the one whose arm encircled Garner's neck."
